Re “There is nothing I can do for you!”

“…and though I had all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing… Charity … believeth all things…” 1 Corinthians 13:2c+7b).

Earlier in chapter 13, we have learned that miraculous faith without love amounts to nothing. You may put great efforts into performing what seems impossible. Yet you may feel so strained and exhausted in doing so that you fail to really listen to what those you are supposed to help are saying about their needs.

On the other hand, now in verse 7, we are taught that charity or love “believeth all things”. Love would not lightly tell a needy person: “There is nothing I can do for you!” Maybe love would at least think or believe that a kind word or a smile could be helpful and encouraging to that person!
